Nursery Teachers
Our teachers are volunteers who have undergone rigorous training in infant/child CPR and safety measures taught by the Red Cross, our church's teaching philosophy for little ones, the Every Nation membership process, and have passed a state-officiated criminal background check. All of our teachers have met these four requirements before serving your baby this evening. They are excited to be here and we are blessed to have them.
Life Savers
We have recently assembled a team of volunteers who are certified and trained in infant/child CPR to respond to specific play areas in the church (using specific pager codes) if emergency help is needed. We trust this is something we'll never need to use and that it's just one more way to keep our babies safe.
Security
In the event your baby becomes inconsolably upset during the service (crying for more than 5 minutes) the nursery teachers will page you using a number that was pinned to the back of your child and given to you as well. There is an LED posted at the front of the church on the right near the hymn board that will flash a child's number if that parent is needed. Rest assured that if your number isn't flashing, your baby is having a wonderful time. This number is also used as a claim check at the end of the service. No baby will be handed over the gate without first receiving the claim check, so we appreciate you keeping yours handy.
Safety
With food allergies on the rise, we ask parents to provide only sippy cups/bottles filled with water to be given during the service. We will be offering Cheerios throughout the service to those who are old enough and will give paper cups of water if needed, however if you would rather we didn't feed them to your baby or if you have special instructions please speak with our nursery teachers each time you drop off your baby. If you feel your baby will need to be fed something more substantial during the service, you are welcome to retrieve your baby and feed him in the Cloud Room upstairs where you will have some privacy. (The Cloud Room is available to nursing mothers during the church service.)
We strive to maintain a ratio of one teacher for every three babies, and should the teachers need help at any time they will page the ushers to bring in another teacher.
Cleanliness
To provide a safe and welcoming environment for your baby, the picnic table and changing table are sterilized each week before class, clean crib sheets are put out, and all mouthed toys from the previous week have been properly cleaned and dried. We recently renovated our nursery and bought all new toys (that are age appropriate!) for the babies to enjoy. There is actually more to play with this week than they will have time to explore, which makes them excited to come back next week.
Health
In order to keep our babies (and teachers!) healthy, we ask that babies stay with their parents if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:
- Persistent runny nose
- Persistent cough
- Fever in the last 24 hours
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Unusual rash on the body or skin eruptions
- Red or infected eyes
If you think your baby might have one of these symptoms, we appreciate you keeping her with you during the service; she will be much more comfortable knowing you are near.
