When you became a Christian, you were adopted into God’s family, often referred to as the “Body of Christ” (e.g., Ephesians 4:12). However, in addition to belonging to the Body of Christ in general, it is God’s intention for every Christian to find a particular local church in which they can belong and call “home.” All throughout the pages of Scripture we see that God’s people are not only called to be committed to Him, but we’re also to live out the life of faith in committed community with other believers.
Healthy relationships are always reciprocal. If you are not already a member of a Christian church, God’s desire is to place you in a healthy Church family where you may not only receive blessing (teaching, friendships, encouragement, etc.) from the church, but where you also may contribute as a family member in order to be a blessing to others through your practical service, giving, praying, caring, and more.
But how do you know which church God is calling you to be a part of? Ultimately God is the One who decides for us where He wants to place us; our job is to discern and obey. Here are a few questions you can ask yourself as you seek to find a local church to join:
- Do you enjoy this church and the people?
- Do you see Biblical fruit in this family?
- Do you see people here living the Christian life that you want to emulate?
- Does your spirit resonate with the purposes and values of this church?
- Can you trust these leaders to be your leaders?
Keep in mind that God does not always place us where we are most comfortable — if we are too comfortable, we are probably not being stretched enough! But there should be a recognition that God is using this church and people to help you grow in Christ.
To become a member at Every Nation Church we ask people to take our “Gospel Class” (101) and “Church Family Class” (201), both of which are offered every Fall, Winter, and Spring. These classes cover the building blocks of a strong relationship with God, and also go over things such as the heart, vision and values of ENC, and the benefits and responsibilities of being part of a spiritual family. After completing the 101 and 201 classes, you will have the opportunity to setup a 30 minute meeting with one of the pastors to answer any questions you may have. If you would like to become a member, you will be honored publicly on a Sunday about one month after you take the 201 class. To sign up for a class, please click one of the buttons at the bottom of the page.
If you are wondering if God is calling you to be a part of Every Nation Church, then we encourage you to sign up for the 101 or 201 classes, or feel free to talk to a church leader about it. If you are not sure if God is calling you to this local church, feel free to talk to a leader about finding the church God is calling you to be committed to. Our desire is to help you find the place where God is placing you, whatever church it might be, so that you will be fruitful and blessed.
