When you became a Christian, you were adopted into God’s family, often referred to as the “Body of Christ” (e.g., Ephesians 4:12). However, in addition to belonging to the Body of Christ in general, it is God’s intention for every Christian to find a particular local church in which they can belong and call “home.” All throughout the pages of Scripture we see that God’s people are not only called to be committed to Him, but we’re also to live out the life of faith in committed community with other believers.
Healthy relationships are always reciprocal. If you are not already a member of a Christian church, God’s desire is to place you in a healthy Church family where you may not only receive blessing (teaching, friendships, encouragement, etc.) from the church, but where you also may contribute as a family member in order to be a blessing to others through your practical service, giving, praying, caring, and more.
But how do you know which church God is calling you to be a part of? Ultimately God is the One who decides for us where He wants to place us; our job is to discern and obey. Here are a few questions you can ask yourself as you seek to find a local church to join:
Keep in mind that God does not always place us where we are most comfortable — if we are too comfortable, we are probably not being stretched enough! But there should be a recognition that God is using this church and people to help you grow in Christ.
To become a member at Every Nation Church we ask people to follow a four-step process:
A new sequence of classes begins every other month. These classes cover the building blocks of a strong relationship with God, and also go over things such as the heart, vision, and values of ENC (101); the benefits and responsibilities of being part of a spiritual family (201); and finding and fulfilling your unique purpose for life (S.H.A.P.E.). The Membership Interview is the opportunity to ask questions of one of our staff members, and discuss what you learned in the classes. If you would like to become a member, you will be publicly honored on a Sunday about one month after you take the S.H.A.P.E. class. To sign up for the next Starting Point 101 class, please click the link above.
If you are wondering if God is calling you to be a part of Every Nation Church, then we encourage you to get started by signing up for the Starting Point 101 class. Signing up does not obligate you in any way! You can also talk to one of our church leaders if you are not ready to sign up for the class. If you are not sure if God is calling you to this local church, talk to a leader about finding the church God is calling you to commit to. Our desire is to help you find the church where God is placing you, whatever that church may be, so that you will be fruitful and blessed.
